Use of repetitive and reoccurring language as emotional anchors (N.A.C): Christian Grey’s name is a repetitious cue for the reader to access the sexual tension state through the book. Also the heroine rapidly associates lifts/elevators with sexual arousal.

Mundane world replaced by fantasy world: the heroine’s life is dull, she is a young woman with very low self-esteem and worth; Grey offers an ‘escape’ onto a world of real fantasy. Fantasy is hypnotic; the possible fulfilment of a fantasy by a person like the heroine who is getting very few emotional needs met is like a hypno-disc: it draws her in – as she says, like a moth to a flame.
